Privacy Policy
We collect only what Ringa needs to work, we keep your exact location private, and we never sell your data. This page explains it in plain language.
1. Who we are
Ringa (ringa.co.in) is a local request network. You can ask for something nearby and shops and people around you can reply. Ringa is operated by Akanksha Prashanth Shastri (founder of Ringa), Bengaluru, India. For this policy we are the “data fiduciary” under India’s Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 (DPDP Act).
2. What we collect
- Account details: your email address (used to sign you in with a one-time code or link).
- Profile details you choose to add: name, username, headline, bio, photo, categories and skills, links, whether you are a person or a shop, a business address if you add one, and a UPI ID if you add one.
- Location: the home location you set, and your live location while the app is open and you have allowed it. We use it to find requests and people near you.
- What you post and do in the app: requests (title, description, budget, radius, handover mode), offers, accepted jobs, start and finish codes, reviews, disputes and any evidence you attach.
- Technical data: basic device and browser information, and your notification permission, so alerts and the app work properly.
3. How we use your location
Other people never see your exact location. Requests and profiles show only a rough area (about 150 to 200 metres). Distances to providers are rounded. Your exact handover point is shared only with the single person you accept for a job, and only for that job.
If you tap Share my trip during a job, Ringa creates a private link that shows your job title, the other person’s name and your approximate last location (rounded to about 10 metres) to anyone who has the link. It stops working after 12 hours or when the job ends. Reports you make and people you block are visible only to you and to Ringa’s review team.
You can turn location off in your browser or phone settings. Without it you can still browse, but you cannot see accurate distances or send and answer requests.
4. Why we use your data
We do not sell your personal data and we do not show advertising.
- To sign you in and keep your account secure.
- To show nearby requests and people, and to connect you with the person you choose.
- To send alerts about requests and offers that matter to you.
- To show ratings and reviews, and to look into disputes and misuse.
- To keep the service safe and to meet legal obligations.
5. Who can see what
- Other users can see your public profile (name, username, headline, bio, photo, rating, reviews, categories, skills and your rough area) and the requests and offers you post.
- Your email address, UPI ID, exact location and codes are not shown to other users. A UPI ID you add may be shown to the person you are paying or being paid by during a job.
- Our service providers process data for us: Supabase (database, sign-in and file storage, hosted in Mumbai, India), Vercel (website hosting), Resend (sending sign-in emails) and OpenFreeMap (map tiles, which receive your IP address when a map loads). They may only use data to provide their service to us.
- We may share data if the law requires it or to protect people from harm.
6. How long we keep it
We keep your data while your account is active. When you delete your account, your profile is anonymised and your personal details, photo, location and links are removed. Some records that involve another person (for example a completed job or a review) may stay in an anonymised form so their history remains accurate. Uploaded images are removed from our storage on request within 30 days. Backups may hold data for a short extra period.
7. Your rights
Under the DPDP Act you can ask to see the personal data we hold about you, correct it, erase it, and withdraw your consent. You can edit your profile any time in the app, and delete your account at /delete-account. For anything else, or to complain about how we handle your data, contact our grievance contact below. We aim to reply within 7 days.
8. Security
Data is encrypted in transit. Access to your data is limited by database rules, so people can only see what the app is meant to show them. No system is perfectly secure, so please use a sign-in email only you can access.
9. Children
Ringa is for people aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect data from children. If you think a child has signed up, tell us and we will remove the account.
10. Changes
We may update this policy. If we make an important change we will tell you in the app. The date at the top shows the latest version.
